Description TORCH SONG DEMOS Torch Song is: Laurie Mayer and William Orbit Original 1982-83 record company demos- 13 tracks This is an original TDK AD60 audio cassette recorded and packaged by the band to be mailed out to record companies. This collection of tracks is what secured the group's recording contract with IRS Records in 1983. These tracks have never been commercially available. The quality of the recording is stunning! Hear the album 'Wish Thing' as it was intended. Many people are unaware of this, but the group was (and still is) extremely unhappy with the 1984 IRS release. The demos were recorded at the group's own 8-track home studio they named Guerilla. Once the group received the advance from IRS, they re-recorded the album on 24-track and both the group and IRS were very disappointed in it. The 24-track version did not have the atmosphere, energy, and spontaneity of the 8- track. These tracks show a young and ultra-talented William free to create music which is still remarkable to this day.
