Description
Time Life "Giants of JAZZ" Complete 28 Vol series with books and picture. If you love jazz, this auction item is for you.  What is this Time Life set all about?  These are 3-LP box sets with an embossed silver-covered 54-page book, and an 8x8 print suitable for framing (the same picture as on the LP box cover). There are 28 volumes in the series. The label is also silver, with black print, with the "Giants of Jazz" logo at the top.   It is rare when this entire 28 volume set appears on eBay.  You can find some of the single volumes for $9.00 and up.  I believe there is an eBay store with the entire set for $500+ dollars.  Well, you can have this set for a lot less and I can guarantee you that I have listened to each record, yes, each and everyone.  I rate them as NM.  No scuffs, no mars, no skips.    It’s all about JAZZ.  I personally believe Jazz is an acquired taste.  I have listened to hours upon hours of various types of music.  Jazz was not one of my favorites in my early years, but over time, the variety, the spontaneity, the individual instrument solos, the creativity of the musicians has made me a fan of Jazz.  So here is your opportunity to listen to the Jazz Greats.   These records are organized starting with the first song on Side 1 being the earliest recordings of the Jazz Great being heard.  Later records in the set move further in time ending with their great hits in the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s (do not remember seeing to many in this time frame).   I have picked two of my favorites, Red Norvo and Frank Teschemacher,   Red for his excellent jazz on the xylophone.  As a matter of fact, he was referred to as “the first man to make the xylophone talk”.  Frank Teschemacher was chosen for the tragedy of his life.  He was one of the great jazz clarinetists, and some referred to him as “the greatest jazz clarinetists ever”.  He died from the result of a traffic accident in Chicago.  A taxi careened into his car and threw him over the convertible top and head first into the concrete curb.  He was rushed to the hospital, but died three days later at the age of 25.   When his boss said, “Now where in the h--l are we going to get another sax player to take his place”, Franks friends hounded him right out of Chicago.  Because his recording life was cut so short, even today they are still looking for music recordings that can be attributed to him.   Now, how do I know all this? I read some of the books that are included with these box sets. Here the Jazz Greats you will hear if you win this listing (in order of the box set numbers in ascending order); Louis Armstrong; Duke Ellington, Billie Holiday, Bix Beiderbecke, Benny Goodman, Coleman Hawkins, Jelly Roll Morton (with some of the oldest Jazz songs), Jack Teagarden; Sidney Bechet, Benny Carter, Earl Hines, The Guitarists (Various Artists), Lester Young, Red Norvo, Fats Waller, Henry “Red” Allen, Pee Wee Russell, James P. Johnson, Johnny Hodges, Teddy Wilson, Ben Webster, Count Basie, Frank Teschemacher; Art Tatum; Bunny Berigan (best trumpeter I heard), Johnny Dodds; Joe Sullivan (in my opinion the hottest jazz piano); and Bessie Smith.   SPECIAL SHIPPING NOTE:  Ten of these box sets weigh 25 pounds for shipping.  I priced the shipping in three boxes using Media Mail.  Even in two boxes the price would be about the same due to an oversize box requiring increased shipping expense.  As is, no returns. Thanks Due to the weight of this set, I cannot combine any other of my listing items in this shipment.   Shipping & Handling (S&H) (USA):  All LP record box sets will be shipped via USPS Media Mail using PO calculator unless you specify differently.  Shipping costs are actual including a small add for S&H.  Insurance is optional.   One box of LPs averages about 5 pounds and costs about $3.98 (not including insurance) via Media Mail in US.         Limit is 5 box sets per PO packaging (weight approximately 25 pounds) unless you request different consideration.           All shipments will be held until payment is cleared.  Questions?  Ask me before you bid.   International (S&H) (Canada):  USPS Priority Mail International calculator will be used for shipping costs to Canada.   Shipping costs are actual including a small amount for S&H.  Insurance is optional, but international first class shipping includes up to $75 dollars I believe.  One box averages about 5 pounds and costs approximately $24.00 to Canada from US.         Limit is 5 box sets per PO packaging (weight approximately 25 pounds) unless you request different consideration.          All shipments will be held until payment is cleared.  Questions?  Ask me before you bid.    Insurance:  Insurance is optional.   Insurance costs about $1.70 for $50 dollars value.  I have never had a problem with the USPS mail, but there is always a first time.   Payment and Terms:   I accept PayPal (preferred), money orders, and cashiers checks.  I do not accept personal checks.  Prefer payment within three workdays of receipt of the invoice.  I will combine multiple wins from same auction to reduce postage (see S&H).  Notify me if you require additional time or other considerations.   Description & Condition:  Bidders will receive the same item as pictured.  I have played and listened to each of the LPs I am selling (unless noted in the description) and will not sell inferior products.  I will describe them as best I can in the auction description.  However, it is normal to have some pops and clicks from dust in the grooves or from static on all LP records.  Cleaning or applying an antistatic solution will improve the sound.  In addition new audio cleaning software exits today that will allow you to eliminate pops and clicks to further purify your music.        Some records, if stored flat (as opposed to being stored vertically on their sides), can be concaved a little at the center, but my experience is that these still are playable and the music is not affected.     Please remember that many of the LP records you see on eBay are all over 25 years old.  Some are over 50 years old if they were recorded before 1967.  Most of the Reader Digest and Time Life box sets were produced between 1965 and 1989.  LP record music is slowly disappearing and may not be with us much longer.    All sales are final unless you have a real problem with my description or believe you have not received the product described.    In this case, please notify me so we can work out our differences.  Please don’t surprise me with a bad rating.   If you have any questions regarding the auction item, please contact me before you place your bid.   SAVE THE MUSIC BEFORE IT'S GONE!
