Description
PART ONE:Japan holds the distinction of releasing more Beatles records than any other nation. At one time, they had the entire British catalog in print, along with most of the American album catalog and a few albums unique to Japan. Their first style was the Odeon label . When the catalog switched to Apple, Japan also began pressing Apple label reissues of the earlier albums. Then there was the EMI-Odeon  label; All these label variations, however, there is only one manufacturer, which is the Toshiba Musical Industries Ltd. Through out the years from '64 to the 90's, Toshiba has pressed different variations of BEATLES' Records, and in 92'-93' the TOJP 7000 series of Beatles reissues commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Beatles' debut and promoted as the final series of Beatles vinyl releases were issued. The words "This album has been direct metal mastered from a digitally re-mastered original tape to give the best possible sound quality" were printed at the bottom of the back cover of each album. In 2003 (i believe), Toshiba once again re-issued some of these DMM records, this time wth the Parlophone and Apple labels, changing the TOJP to the 60000 series. These series were pressed only on black vinyls and in very limited quantities, making them really very rare. These are believed to be the last pressings by Toshiba, and to date no Beatles records has been re-issued so far by the company.A unique feature of Japanese LPs is a fragile strip of paper called an "Obi" (pronounced oh'-bee).  "Obi" is the word for "sash." When talking about records, the obi is a paper sash that wraps around the cover, containing bits of information about the record. When Toshiba releases a series of Beatles re-issues, the OBIs used are normally of the same style. The TOJP 60000 series however are unique as Toshiba opted to do variations and a re-use of Obi styles dating back to the 64's to the 90's.The following albums are included in the collection (note that all records are BLACK VINYLS only):        1. PLEASE PLEASE ME                                                                   MONO     TOJP-60131        2. MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR                                                     STEREO   TOJP-60144LPs are the same as the ones issued in England. Please note that i did not opt to have the Let It Be Naked and Beatles Number 1 in the series as most songs are just repetitions of the previous. Included are lyric sheets written both in English and Japanese. These lps by THE BEATLES are very rare and highly collectible, quite impossible to find as a set. And as with other Japanese vinyl pressings they are very superior in quality and craftsmanship. All records are in brand new condition. They had never been played and some had never seen the light of day. Few you will find nick on the jacket, that is due to previous handling and/or storage of the item. All of the LPs are not sealed, as they were imported to the U.S. unsealed for customs inspection. Re-sealable and/or plastic jacket protectors are provided. All OBI's are intact!NOTES ABOUT DMM:  With DIRECT METAL MASTERING, the groove is cut directly in copper metal. High frequency loss, distortion and pre-echo associated with conventional lacquer mastering are eliminated and transient response is greatly improved. DMM record pressing sound brighter, cleaner, more detailed, with 15% more playing time than with lacquer technology. Stampers are plated directly from the DMM Copper Master, eliminating two of the three plating steps required for lacquers. In short, DMM yields better detail resolution and lower  noise  (for vinyl, DMM sounds closer to the MASTER TAPE than any other system of cutting)PART TWO:In 1992, Capitol released the single Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You as a single from their CEMA* Special Markets Division, with "For Jukeboxes Only!" printed on the label. Two years later, in 1994 they issued a series of 15 titles, followed by another series of 15 in 1996. All discs in the second series of juke-box singles had sales of 15,000 - 20,000 pieces. The first series, in fact, sold quite a bit more than the second, sales of those discs range typically in the 22,000 range. Three titles, Love Me Do, Birthday, and Norwegian Wood were issued (two inadvertantly) on both color vinyl and black vinyl - with one common version and one rare version of each, noted as follows: Love Me Do / P.S. I Love You (Red vinyl / Black vinyl S7-56785)) - This was the first of the "For Jukeboxes Only" releases. CEMA originally ordered these in black vinyl. Specialty, who pressed them, had just finished a run of red vinyl singles for another artist, and the operator forgot to change to black "biscuits". About 250-300 copies of the red vinyl Love Me Do were made before the mistake was discovered. CEMA ended up keeping these copies, and they were eventually sold to one distributor. The black vinyl discs were released on October 19, the same day as Capitol's CD single of Love Me Do, while the red versions were finally shipped the following year on March 10.Norwegian Wood / If I Needed Someone (Green vinyl, S7-18888 / Black vinyl S7-19341) - The green vinyl version was only available through Collector's Choice Music when you bought the 1995 sealed set of Beatles LP's - only 1000 were made. The black vinyl is the common standard issue.Birthday / Taxman (Green vinyl / Black vinyl, S7-17488) - This was originally scheduled to be released on 7-28-93, alongside Badfinger's Baby Blue / Day After Day (S7-17487) and Paul's C'Mon People / Down To The River (S7-17489). At this time, the 'A' and 'B' sides were reversed (the single was Taxman / Birthday) and it was to be pressed on yellow vinyl. The release was delayed until the following year, when it was released along with several other titles, with Birthday as the 'A' side side and pressed on green vinyl. Again, owing to goof-ups at the plant, a small quantity of black vinyl discs were shipped, numbering about 25 - 50 pieces. Actually quite rare, and mistakenly priced at only a few dollars' value. In all, there are 34 issues counting variations.* CEMA is the distribution arm of what was then called Capitol-EMI. CEMA originally stood for what was, at the time, the four EMI companies distributed by this branch: Capitol, EMI, Manhattan and Angel. Capitol-EMI subsequently acquired and distributed several other companies, so that distribution branch was simply known as "CEMA."What i have for sale (together with the DMM Records) are 32 COLORED VINYLS Collection. I suppose you can call this a Semi-complete set as i don't have the ever elusive Green NORWEGIAN WOOD and the Black BIRTHDAY/TAXMAN discs. I will also include, if available, jukebox strips for each single released. Here's the List of the 32 COLORED VINYLS:1.  S7-56785    Love Me Do/P.S. I Love You   Red2.  S7-56785    Love Me Do/P.S.
