The Making Of (Majestic 2005 - New & Sealed 2 CD Set In Deluxe Digipak) This twodisc set is sort of like a work of religious apologetics faced with a world that misunderstands their beliefs and misconstrues their motivations. The organizers of an annual San Francisco rave called the ElectroTechnoDisco Posicle Festival filmed a documentary intended, in their words, "to try and clarify, to illustrate and to offer some answers to many of the misunderstandings of this genre of music." The film goes behind the scenes, showing what goes into the organization of an indoor dance party for 10,000 people; it also includes interviews with the organizers, who are clearly in earnest though it's not entirely clear what they have to be earnest about. It's a dance party. It's fun. Yes, a lot of people get wasted, and the rave's organizers make vague noises about being bothered by that fact, but they're deeply unconvincing on that particular point. The real point of the documentary is the footage of the dancers in all their kaleidoscopic variety. Velvet Chain is a Los Angeles based band who play a mixture of trip-hop and mellow music. The band was formed in the early 1990s by Jeff Stacy and Erika Amato, the creative core of the band. The band found mainstream attention after they appeared on an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and later had a song included in the show's soundtrack. Review: I bought this album several years ago after hearing STRONG on the Buffy Soundtrack and I found it to be a really pleasant surprise! Singer Erika Amato has a beautiful, haunting voice, and the rest of the band lays down some amazing grooves! You can hear echoes of Portishead, the Cure, even Fleetwood Mac in the writing, but the sound Velvet Chain has developed is definitely all their own. Difficult to pigeonhole, but immensely appealing. This is simply the best of them all. Fred Steiner's recording is even superior to Max Steiner's original soundtrack recording. The CD's only shortcoming is that Fred Steiner did not record the entire score. That's why I'm glad to know that this magnificent score was re-recorded and is now avilable again. Fred Steiner reconstructed the score and, of course, this is the best recording ever made.
