TOMMY & THE DERBY'S Don't Play the Role / Handy Andy (Swing 1001) Here we go! Possibly the most sought after Northern Soul single out there right now. Less than 10 known copies. Stock copies and masters melted in a warehouse, producer, label, band have all been contracted and no one has copies. Might be your last chance to get this one.  Tommy Tate sings lead, with Dorothy Moore on backups... Don't Play the Role is the song, but Handy Andy's great too! Matrix: ZtSB 111031-1A and ZtSB 111032-1A Record grades VG, gold labels show some faint ringwear and there is a small tear off the hole above "the" on the A-side. Vinyl still has pretty good gloss, but has a lot of light surface scratches and scuffs. It plays much better than VG, with very minor surface noise, nothing constant. There is one little pop before the music starts on the B-side - you can hear it in the audio track - but nothing significant during play on either side.    Check audio clips for yourself, all our records on auction right now are in the player below. It's not ideal (it really magnifies minor defects that often are not audible in regular playback) but should give you a general idea of play condition of the record. Reserve is set at less than half of what a copy in similar condition sold for on John Manship's site earlier this year. RECORD GRADING  We grade conservatively, and aim to describe the records accurately. We grade visually according to Goldmine standards, with the addition of an Excellent (VG++ or E)grade for the hazy grey area between Near Mint and VG+.
