Description
Going Up The Country studio master reel-to-reel tape - CANNED HEAT (Liberty Records safety master) MONO Original 1968 safety master reel tape of CANNED HEAT's legendary rock classic, as written by the late, great Alan 'Blind Owl' Wilson. This is a 15 ips, 7" quarter track reel, featuring the mixed MONO 45 version (Version 2 or II, as it's marked on the original tape box). Here is the background history on this item: it originated with Richard Hite, the younger brother (and future Canned Heat member) of Bob 'the Bear' Hite. As a teenager, Richard often was present in the studio during Canned Heat's recording sessions. He attended several of the sessions for the 'Living The Blues' LP, including the one when "Going Up The Country" was recorded, mixed and mastered. After the recording was mixed, he was sometimes given a 'safety master' by the recording engineer. That is what this 7" reel is. Richard kept this in his possesion from October, 1968, until 2001, when he gave it to a friend as a gift. I obtained it from this friend in 2002. I recently had this tape tested in a professional analog recording studio; playback on an Ampex 300 tape machine, with JBL studio monitors. It is in excellent condition; no flaking, no visual or audio deterioration. It is pretty much exactly how the recording sounded in October, 1968, pre-mastering. The original tape box includes the original Liberty Records technical info sheet, which includes the exact recording date (10/18/1968), frequency & e.q. settings, etc. - plus, the recording engineer's signature (see picture). This is definitely a one-of-a-kind piece of classic rock memorabilia/recording that has never been offered for sale in the past. It is 100% guaranteed to be a genuine and original tape from the 1968 CANNED HEAT recording sessions. If there are any additional questions in regards this item, please do not hesitate to send email. All U.S. orders over $20 (without insurance) will include .75 charge for delivery confirmation, due to one parcel that I shipped that never reached its destination. And even though the buyer did not purchase the optional insurance, paypal made me cough up.On May-15-08 at 10:21:52 PDT, seller added the following information:Correction: The individual who I obtained this tape from actually received it from Richard Hite in 1997, not 2001.
