Neither Here Nor There((( Limited Edition Signed Hardcover Edition )))Plus 18-Track CD byThe MelvinsThis amazing book was published in 2004 to mark the 20th anniversary of the supernatural force otherwise known as The Melvins. The book was released in two editions, this one, being a very limited production hardcover edition featuring red boards with black spine and signed by the band, and the other being a softcover edition with orange covers which was printed in much greater quantity. Although the publisher (and band's record label) Ipecac has reported the fact that the signed hardcover edition is much more limited in production than the softcover, which has also been borne out by the much more common listings for the unsigned softcover edition on eBay over the years since publishing (although most of the private stocks of softcover copies seem to have been sold off and even they come up much less frequently than they used to, and have also skyrocked in price, going from $30-$40 to recently selling for $90 to $115, again, for the much more common unsigned softcover edition...those recent sales seem to have just recently flushed out a few more copies into the marketplace), we've never been able to track down definitive numbers on the actual number of copies produced of either version. As far as the work itself, the book is a true tour-de-force of wonderfully dark, bizarre, and psychedelic artwork that Melvins fans are familiar with if only from their wonderfully quirky album art and beloved concert t-shirts. But while the book features most, if not all (and possibly even more) of the artwork from all of their albums, interviews with the band, pictures of all of the official t-shirts ever released by the band, pictures of the band behind the scenes and on stage, and so on, the work also features hundreds of pages of surreal artwork from a slew of very talented artists including Adam Jones (guitarist and major creative force of the phenomenon/band TOOL), LSD inspired psychedelic/spiritual artist Alex Grey (who also provided original art for both TOOL's albums LaTeRaLus and 10,000 Days), Cam De Leon (also a contributor to TOOL; much of his art graced TOOL's landmark Aenima album, including the amazing eye on the back cover), Chet Zar (also a contributor to TOOL, having created many of the psychedelic visuals that are played during TOOL's live shows....he also has a DVD of short animations called Disturb the Normal, some of which have been used by TOOL on tour), Mackie Osbourne (Buzz's bethrothed and longtime artist responsible for many of the Melvin's albums/shirts artwork and layouts), Obey Giant, Dalek, Camille Rose Garcia, Tim Biskup, and many more.This is a full-sized book, measuring approximately 8.25" wide x 10.75" tall x 1.2" thick, and features a cool die-cut front board and front free-endpaper, nice thick matte pages, which really brings the amazing artwork throughout to life.The book is autographed by the Melvins lineup (that is, to say the last incarnation before yet another departure in the bass department ) responsible for arguably some of the Melvins finest works, including the masterpieces The Maggot, The Bootlicker, as well as Electroretard, Hostile Ambient Takeover, and Pigs of the Roman Empire (among others), Buzz 'King Buzzo' Osbourne, Dale Crover, and former Cows bassist Kevin Rutamanis.As if a super-limited signed hardcover book chock full of sweet artwork wasn't enough, the book also comes with a massive 18-track CD which pulls singles from every single studio release (to date).CD Tracks:1. Condition: The book is in Near Fine condition with a very subtle curvature to the boards (it's not bad at all....most people would never notice, and keep in mind, many sellers would just call it "mint" or not even notice, let alone call attention to such minimal flaws), a couple tiny and light impressions (about the size of a ballpoint pen mark), a tiny and lgiht stress near the toe of the spine, a tiny impression along the top edge of the rear board. There are a couple minor issues surrounding the paper CD sleeve that is affixed to the rear pastedown endpaper (the inside of the rear board). First, the envelope was originally sealed with two strips of strange tape holding the flap shut. The original owner removed the strips of tape but they left a stain to the sleeve along with some adhesive residue. There are a couple tiny spots of the red adhesive residue that transferred from contact to the rear free-endpaper, and there is a small 1.5" tear along the left edge of the brown paper envelope. The CD itself has a fair amount of scratches to the playing surface. We don't know if this affects play, so to be safe, we're going to include a c*py of the CD just in case. Sound good?
