Description
Baron Elmo Enterprises proudly presents a stunning prize from the massive discography of musical genius and social satirist extraordinaire FRANK ZAPPA: his Beat the Boots #2, an incredibly limited eight-CD box set, released in 1992 by Rhino Records on their Zappa-exclusive Foo-Eee label. The Beat the Boots series compiled what Frank felt were the best of the dozens of illicit recordings of his music that have appeared in record stores through the years. Zappa was an obsessive live performer during his lifetime, logging innumerable gigs with wildly diverse bands that, over the long haul, utilized the services of literally hundreds of musicians. Naturally, his shows were of intense appeal to the denizens of Planet Bootleg. And after over a quarter-century of music making, Frank came up with a scheme to rip off the bootleggers who had ripped him off, using the power of the marketplace… hence, the pair of Zappa box sets released as Beat the Boots. The first box was vinyl-only, but the albums inside were all released individually on CD by Rhino, and remained in print for several years. For Volume 2, the very item we have for sale today, Zappa did things differently: this time the box was designed for compact discs, with no vinyl release at all… and these CDs were never made available individually outside the box. Furthermore, Beat the Boots #2 was limited to a single small pressing that sold out immediately – if you blinked, you missed your chance. The box includes, in addition to the seven repackaged bootlegs (one of which is a double), a black cap with a red Beat the Boots pin attached to the front. Also included is a stunning lp-sized 40-page Zappa scrapbook featuring newspaper articles, reviews of Frank's work (both pro and con), advertisements, drawings, photos, duplications of rare inserts included with the early Mothers of Invention records, concert posters, interviews and the complete transcript of Frank's appearance at the PMRC Senate hearing in 1985. (It should be mentioned that this is the exact same booklet that came with the first volume of Beat the Boots.) What is not included with this box is much information about the music itself, other than a track listing, the musicians involved on each disc, and what artwork there is from the original boots. Clearly, Frank wished to let the music speak for itself. The eight discs are all in beautiful shape… while the cardboard box itself does show slight handling wear, in addition to a couple of small stains.   A $8.00 shipping charge will be added to the winning total for shipment in the USA, Canada and Mexico… $30.00 to anywhere else. We accept PayPal, for those so inclined. No personal checks, please.
