Description
PERIOD SPL 716 mono "BOTSCHAFTER DER MUSIK" film soundtrack; Strauss: Till Eulenspiegel, Schubert: Unfinished Sym.rehearsal (rehearsal extract), Meistersinger: Prelude Act 1 (extract), Wilhelm Furtwangler; Beethoven: Coriolan Ovt., Egmont Ovt. Mozart: Sym. 40, 4th movement, S. Celibidache, Berlin PO. The disc and jacket are in NEAR MINT condition (maybe played only once). It's Nice Plum lbl. pressing. This is one of the great Furtwangler rarities, the first copy I've found after collecting Furtwangler since 1964. The sound is amazing and it gives a different sonic perspective (superior) on the Berlin PO string tone. This is the 1st and only form of issue (Hunt discography) with the exception of a Japanese laser disc of the film. John Ardoin in "The Furtwangler Record" prefers the Till to the 1943 performance. Recorded in 1951, this was issued (in 1952) with expressed permission of Ambassador Films and the Berlin PO so it's not a pirate. I don't know what explains it rareity? Mr. Canfield apparently agrees. I wish I could keep it! "SIC TRANSIT GLORIA MUNDI" 35,000 classical Lp's in stock & no retail outlet outlet. www.wingrecords.com Best of Luck to all; Best regards Charles Jones
