Description
New Listing 7 CD LOT CLASSIC ROCK All CDs in this lot are new and still sealed! *THE BAND Jubilation (Platinum 1998) The best of the Band's post-1976 output! Eric Clapton and John Hiatt both appear as guests musicians. Robbie or no Robbie, this is a wonderful album, and almost certainly the best post-1976 album of the Band. You could buy it for the first two songs alone: Rick Danko's voice and Garth Hudson's accordion on Book Faded Brown are beautiful and haunting, and Don't Wait (despite Levon Helm's voice problems, a heartfelt and expressive vocal) is (both in lyrics and in performance) one of the best and most moving songs they have recorded since the brown album. In general there is a wistfulness to this album that makes it very adult and appealing, reflecting some of the hard times they've gone through...some terrific & heartfelt songs here. And I have to single out Rick Danko's vocals too...some of the finest & most poignant singing in his career (Book Faded Brown, If I Should Fail, High Cotton) is on this disc. And Garth's playing is always a joy. If you are looking for an introduction to the music of the Band, you'd be better off starting with the early classics of the original lineup (Music from Big Pink). But if you're familiar with the 1968-1976 albums and are curious about the group's later years, you will enjoy this lovely signature piece from one of the finest and most original groups in music history. SONGS/TRACKS: 1. Book Faded Brown 2. Don't Wait 3. Last Train to Memphis 4. High Cotton 5. Kentucky Downpour 6. Bound by Love 7. White Cadillac 8. If I Shold Fail 9. Spirit of the Dance 10. A Blind Fool's Love 11. Where Did All the French Girls Go File Under: Classic Rock - Keyword: Eric Clapton, John Hiatt *PETE TOWNSHEND Live: A Benefit For Maryville Academy (Intersound 1999 - New & Sealed 2 CD Set) The advantage Pete Townshend has over many of his contemporaries is he's found nonmusical outlets for his creative urges. Engaged in publishing in his post-Who semi-retirement, the windmilling guitarist has returned to the stage infrequently, which may partially explain the energy he brings to this performance, a benefit for a treatment center for abused children. The two-disc collection features Townshend backed by a quintet on one disc and stretching out with Eddie Vedder and keyboardist Jon Carvin on remakes of "Magic Bus" and "Heart to Hang Onto" on the second disc. Townshend scatters a couple of unexpected covers (Canned Heat's droning "On the Road Again" and Dylan's "Girl From the North Country") and a few more obscure originals ("Now and Then," "Drowned") among the staples ("Anyway Anyhow Anywhere," "Let My Love Open the Door," "Won't Get Fooled Again"). The original art punk now approaches his material with a certain mature reserve, but he's consistently engaged and in fine voice. Here's one '60s hero who isn't treading the same worn path because he has no interest in arriving at the same old destination. ~ Amazon SONGS/TRACKS: Disc: 1 1. On The Road Again 2. Anyway Anyhow Anywhere 3. A Little Is Enough 4. Drowned 5. You Better You Bet 6. Now And Then 7. North Country Girl 8. Let My Love Open The Door 9. Won't Get Fooled Again 10. Magic Bus 11. I'm One Disc: 2 1. Magic Bus 2. Heart To Hang Onto File Under: Classic Rock - Keyword: The Who, Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam *THE BRITISH ROCK INVASION (Pet Rock 1999 - New & Sealed CD) Pet Rock Records is the music releasing arm of the King Biscuit Flower Hour and, not surprisingly, all of the tracks included here are culled from various live albums released under the King Biscuit banner. The vast majority of the acts here are associated with the 1970s musical era. Your enjoyment of this CD will be in direct proportion to your likes/dislikes of the various bands presented. The recordings are generally good, though the Motorhead cut sounds like it was recorded inside a trash can. For me, the highlights were the Renaissance and Gentle Giant tracks and it was interesting to hear John Entwistle playing live without his Who bandmates. Recommended to those who like their classic rock live, with a British twist. SONGS/TRACKS: 1. Seven Stars - Uriah Heep 2. Thirty Days In The Hole - Humble Pie 3. Parisienne Walkways - Greg Lake 4. Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake & Palmer 5. Another Perfect Day - Motorhead 6. Roundabout - GTR 7. Boris The Spider - John Entwistle 8. Carpet Of The Sun - Renaissance 9. Experience - Gentle Giant 10. The Forrest - Rick Wakeman File Under: Classic Rock - Keyword: Humble Pie, John Entwhistle, Gentle Giant *RARE LIVE PERFORMANCES (Laserlight 2001 - New & Sealed CD) Classic groups in concert recordings featuring Bob Weir & Kingfish (Grateful Dead), Greg Lake (performing King Crimson's "21st Century Schizoid Man"), Emerson Lake & Palmer, John Sebastian (Lovin' Spoonful) and others. SONGS/TRACKS: 1. Lucky Man - Emerson, Lake & Palmer 2. I Need You - America 3. Daydream - John Sebastian 4. Horse With No Name - America 5. Battle of New Orleans - Kingfish 6. Home to Dixie - Kingfish 7. Talkin' in Your Sleep - Romantics 8. 21st Century Schizoid Man - Greg Lake 9. Nuclear Attack - Greg Lake File Under: Classic Rock, Prog - Keyword: Bob Weir & Kingfish, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Grateful Dead *RICK SPRINGFIELD Karma (Platinum 1999) After nearly ten years of silence, Rick Springfield returned to recording in the late '90s, releasing Karma in the last year of the decade. A lot can happen in ten years, and it's to Springfield's credit that he refuses to ignore the changes while building on his bedrock sound. While it evokes classic Springfield, Karma is certainly the work of a more mature artist. At times, it's a self-consciously mature artist -- the lyrical subjects are usually serious, for instance -- but it's nice to hear him add layers of acoustic guitars and keyboards. That's not to say that he doesn't rock at all on the record, but the majority of the album is, for want of a better phrase, thinking man's AOR -- music made by an aging arena rocker for his aging fans. And that's the reason why the album works. It doesn't try to recapture the exuberance of Working Class Dog, yet it stays true to that music while being the work of a rocker approaching 50. For longtime fans, that alone makes Karma worth hearing. Stan Bush: Celebrated singer and songwriter who has worked with the likes of Mick Jones (Stan was at one time up for lead singer in Foreigner!), Quiet Riot, Jonathan Caine of Journey, Alice Cooper, Jefferson Starship, Paul Stanley of KISS and many others. Stan is best known fro the song "The Touch" from the soundtrack to the 1986 animated film Transformers: The Movie, and "She's Got the Power", featured in the American voice dub of the animated series Sailor Moon. "The Touch" gained recent notoriety when Mark Wahlberg perfomed the song in the 1997 film Boogie Nights. SONGS/TRACKS: 1. His Last Words 2. It'sAlwaysomething 3. Religion Of The Heart 4. Beautiful Prize 5. Karma 6. Shock To My System 7. Free 8. Prayer 9. White Room, The 10. In Veronica's Head 11. Ordinary Girl 12. Act Of Faith 13. Untitled File Under: Heavy Pop - Keyword: Stan Bush, Foreigner * GUNS 'N' ROSES & AEROSMITH TRIBUTE: The Hits Performed By Studio 99 (Going For A Song 2000 - New & Sealed CD) The best of Aerosmith and Guns N' Roses.
