Growing more confident by the day in their studio acumen and songwriting skills, the Byrds logged long nights of hypnotic in-studio jamming, then hammered the white-hot magma into songs that will live forever. McGuinn's solos soared as never before, his technique now fusing the familiar, melodic overtones of the Rickenbacker 12-string with a powerfully new staccato dissonance absorbed from the majestic saxophone of John Coltrane. Michael Clarke's drumming never sounded better, his Elvin Jones-like cymbal splashes and rolling-tom thunder driving the band like an atomic generator approaching critical mass. Chris Hillman's swooping bass lines took on a McCartney-esque timbre that filled in every corner of the canvas with bold, melodic strokes. But it was perhaps David Crosby, playing in a brashly percussive way no one had ever heard before from a rhythm guitarist, who best digested and interpreted the Eastern influences of the day: the ragas and tales of Ravi Shankar. Track Listings 1.   Eight Miles High 2.   Why 3.   Ryder 4.   John Riley I 5.   2-4-2 Trot (The Lear Jet Song) 6.   Psychodrama City 7.   John Riley II 8.   Wild Mountain Thyme 9.   Hey Joe (Where you Gonna Go) 10.   I See You 11.   What's Happening?!?! 12.   Captain Soul (30 Minute Break) SANCTUARY - The ringing sound of the Byrds - a band that created at least three rock n roll genres (folk-rock, raga-rock and country-rock) - would make any red-blooded music fan reach for the nearest tambourine to beat the jingle-jangle daylights out of it. Sanctuary collects all of the best rarities, alternate takes and 45-only sides into one goose pimple-inducing package, gauranteed to make anyone with a pulse Feel A Whole Lot Better. Most tracks have never appeared on vinyl! Track Listings 1.   All I Really Want To do 2.   I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better 3.   You Won't Have to Cry 4.   It's No Use 5.   She Don't Care About Time 6.   It's All Over Now, BabyBlue 7.   The World Turns All Around Her 8.   The Day Walk 9.   Why 10.   John Riley 11.   Psychodrama City 12.   Mind Gardens 13.   Lady Friend 14.   Old John Robertson FIFTH DIMENSION - With Gene Clarke flying the coop, McGuinn, Crosby and crew hunkered down into some serious electro-jamming on the mindbending "Eight Miles High" - another Top Twenty Hit - whose lyrics were sparked by fire under the psychedelic revolution in San Francisco, while "John Riley" and "Wild Mountain Thyme" sprang directly from the Byrds' folk roots. "Mr. Spaceman" - a science fiction sitcom in three minutes - highlighted McGuinn's dry sense of humor and his fascination with something now known as "X-Files." Track Listings 1.   Eight Miles High 2.   John Riley 3.   5D (Fifth Dimension) 4.   Wild Mountain Thyme 5.   Mr. Spaceman 6.   Hey Joe (Where You Gonna Go) 7.   What's Happening 8.   I Come & Stand at Every Door 9.   2-4-2 Fox Trot (The Lear Jet Song) 10.   I See You 11.   Captain Soul YOUNGER THAN YESTERDAY - From the fires of personal turmoil arose what may be the Byrds' best album. "So You Want To Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star" concisely details their disenchantment with the extraneous trappings of pop music stardom, riding the trumpet of Hugh Masekela for all it's worth. Although "Renaissance Fair" may have been his high water mark with the Byrds, Crosby was getting itchy feet. Thus "Have You Seen Her Face" - another radio smash - spotlighted bassist Chris Hillman as third lead vocalist. "My Back Pages," a return to the bottomless well of Dylan, clinches the album's place in history, possibly topping even "Mr. Tambourine Man" as a Dylan cover. Track Listings 1.   So You Want to be A Rock'n Roll Star 2.   C.T.A. - 102 3.   Have You Seen Her Face 4.   Mind Gardens 5.   The Girl With No Name 6.   Thoughts and Words 7.   Time Between 8.   Everybody's Been Burned 9.   Renaissance Fair 10.   Why 11.   My Back Pages MR. TAMBOURINE MAN -  As much as Bob Dylan was an overwhelming influence on the young Byrds (four of the twelve tracks on MR. TAMBOURINE MAN were Dylan songs), few debut singles in the history of Rock n Roll have had the immediate and overwhelming impact as The Byrd’s version of Mr. Tambourine Man. Combining a Beatle-like guitar to Dylan’s insight and folky melody did not only forecast the band’s influence on the future of Pop Music but re-established an American Rock n Roll presence in the face of the British Invasion. All by its lonesome, the sound of Roger McGuinn’s 12-string guitar was the group’s backbone characterizing The Byrd’s presence in a way few Rock Instrumentalists had done until then. Gene Clark proved to be a mighty songwriter in his own right on - I Feel A Whole Lot Better - yet what distinguished The Byrds and MR. TAMBOURINE MAN most was that they couldn’t be easily pigeon-holed. Combining disparate musical backgrounds (folk, blue-grass,jazz) and openly re-structuring everything from a British wartime standard - We’ll Meet Again to a Jackie DeShannon cover - Don’t Doubt Yourself Babe. In their own open-minded image, The Byrds kicked down the door to new Rock n Roll. Many would soon follow.  Other songs included on this Audiophile Masterpiece are - Spanish Harlem Incident - You Won’t Have To Cry - Here Without You - The Bells of Rhymeney - All I Really Want To Do - I Knew I’d Want You - It’s No Use - Chimes of Freedom - She Has A Way. This Audiophile Masterpiece has been rated Excellent by Q Magazine and illustrates why The Byrds music still inspires musicians. UNTITLED - DOUBLE 180 GRAM LP SET - From Columbia Records in 1970 comes The Byrds’ 11th release UNTITLED.  UNTITLED is a two-record set with one of the LPs recorded live. Along with the classic Byrds’ tunes like MR. TAMBOURINE MAN - SO YOU WANT TO BE A ROCK N ROLL STAR, there is a live version of EIGHT MILES HIGH which runs just over 16 minutes. The Byrds’ last real hit song CHESTNUT MARE is also on this recording as are two songs authored by Bob Dylan. Tracks are as follows:  Lover of the Bayou -= Positively 4th Street - Nashville West - So You Want To Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star - Mr. Tambourine Man - Mr. Spaceman - Eight Mlles High - Chestunt Mare - Truck Stop Girl - All The Things - Yesterday's Train - Hungry Planet - Just A Season - Take A  Whiff On Me - You All Look Alike - Welcome Back Home UNTITLED reunited The Byrds with their original producer/manager/mentor, Jim Dickson. Another long tIme Byrds’ producer, Terry Melcher, is the co-producer. At the time UNTITLED was recorded, the group ws only five years old and guitarist/songwriter Roger McGuuinn remained the only original member. However, he had excellent support from long-time Byrds’ contributer - and an exceptional guitarist in his on right - Clarence While. Gram Parsons even returned to sing harmony on ALL THE THINGS. The other band members on this album were Gene Parsons and Skip Batin. THE VERY BEST OF THE BYRDS - DOUBLE LP SET  - 27 track comprehensive collection of their biggest & best from the '60s & '70s, including 'Mr. Tambourine Man', 'All I Really Want To Do', 'Chimes Of Freedom', 'He Was A Friend Of Mine', 'I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better', 'The Times They Are A-Changin'', 'Turn! Turn! Turn!', 'Eight Miles High', 'Mr. Spaceman', 'Jesus Is Just Alright', 'Chestnut Mare' and 'So You Want To Be A Rock 'N' Roll Star'. THE BYRDS - DR. BYRDS & MR. HYDE- 180 Gram Vinyl Limited Edition with Heavy Quality Sleeves After the disintegration of the original Byrds line-up, and a transitional country-rock album, Roger McGuinn somehow  found the will to keep the group alive and continue to make Byrds music. In interviews years later, McGuinn would later express unsatisfaction over certain aspects of the latter-day Byrds era (despite positive interviews in the 60s), but musical history is extremely fortunate that he carried on, and "Dr. Byrds & Mr. Hyde" is the first souvenir from this productive era, despite the fact it failed to even break into the Top 150 on Billboard's album chart. Ironically, this album contained more original material than its much more successful follow-up "Ballad of Easy Rider," and McGuinn decided to take lead vocals on all of the numbers here, at least for the time being until the audience was used to the change, but their playing here proves that vocals would be no challenge. Guitarist Clarence White had participated in numerous sessions with the group over the years, and his musical contributions to the latter-day Byrds are rivaled in importance only by friend and drummer Gene Parsons who, much like White, had become a veteran of the road. John York was brought in as the new bassist and though his stay in the group was short, it was nonetheless important, as here he proves to be a flexible and talented bass player (this is evident on the in-concert release "Live at the Fillmore," and his creative input was more apparent on "Ballad of Easy Rider"). The product of this new beginning certainly deserved its title; it showed two sides of the Byrds, a progressing experimental spirit and one that showed a great appreciation for country and southern roots. Tracks include:  This Wheel's On Fire - Old Blue - Your Gentle Way of Loving Me - Child of The Universe - Nashville West - Drug Store Truck Drivin' Man - King Apathy III - Candy - Bad Night At The Whiskey - Medley: My Back Pages/B.J. Blues/Baby, What Do You Want Me To Do  TURN TURN TURN whose fervent serenity sums up the paradox at the core of The Byrds in the second LP’s cornerstone but again Clark’s exquisite ballads grip you and was the group’s secret weapon. Gene Clark knowing twist on songs of teen heartbreak have a blissful surge to them. Clark’s ballads are some of the most mature, restrained bits of music to emerge from this adolescent era. He Is A Friend of Mine included additional Roger McGuinn lyrics that eluded to J.F.K.’s assassination turning a mournful standard into a personalized declaration. TURN TURN TURN depicted The Byrds as an early work in progress already capable of defying the public’s early work in progress already capable of defying the public’s perception of their artistry and stretching further with every note. Classics included here are - a Bob Dylan cover of The Times They Are A Changin’ - It Won’t Be Wrong - Set You Free This Time - He Was A Friend of Mine - Lay Down Your Weary Tune - The World Turns All Around Her - Satisfied Mind - If You’re Gone - Wait And See - Oh Susannah - The Day Walk.>>>++For discriptions of the other to titles not listed "The Very Best of The Byrds" and "Untitled" (both double LPs)Go to our E-Bay Stores section.  GENE CLARK - WHITE LIGHT - An early solo release by former Byrd Gene Clark, 1971's White Light is widely regarded as one of the lauded singer-songwriter's finest albums. With its spare, largely acoustic arrangements, the record allows Clark's plaintive vocals and emotional lyrics to come to the fore, as best revealed on the rootsy title track and the intimate "Where My Love Lies Asleep." Track Listings 1.   The Virgin 2.   With Tomorrow 3.   White Light 4.   Because Of You 5.   One In A Hundred 6.   Spanish Guitar 7.   Where My Love Lies Asleep 8.   Tears Of Rage 9.   1975  A SONIC WORK OF ART These Limited Edition gems are the Finest of the Audiophile sound.
