Description
THE BEATLES - 'WHITE ALBUM' 1968 UK *EXPORT* PRESSING DOUBLE LP **'SOLD IN UK.....' TEXT ON LABELS* Export copies of this LP are rare to say the least, but this copy is special. This undocumented, and until now unseen, variant carries the 'Sold in UK....' text on three of its four labels. It is not known how many copies with this label error exist, but this is the only copy I have ever seen or heard about and is unlikely to appear for sale again. This amazing rarity comes from a serious Beatles collector who has commissioned me to sell his collection over the coming few months. It comprises some of the rarest and best condition copies ever to be offered for sale. For some of the highlights, please take a look at my 'About Me' page. This incredible UK 1968 stereo *EXPORT* pressing is on the black & yellow Parlophone labels: P-PCS 7067 & P-PCS 7068 Labels 1, 2 & 3 all mistakenly carry the 'Sold in UK..' texts. Another small variant occurs on the side 1 label. 'Regular' yellow & black export albums have a full-stop before the asterisk at the end of the 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' title. It is missing here. All labels have 'The Gramophone Co...' rims and there is no tax/price code present on any label. Housed in a thick card stock, fully laminated, top-loading 'Garrod & Lofthouse printed cover numbered: No.0436003 with a small 'stereo' logo on the rear upper right corner. This copy is 100% complete with both its matt black die-cut inner-sleeves, 4 colour portrait photos, matt UK printed poster and white paper photo spacer. Matrix numbers: YEX 709-1, 710-1 & YEX 711-1, 712-2 Stamper numbers: 6/GDR, 4/GPP & 3/GHM, 1/GOP Disc weights: 1. 137g 2. 133g CONDITION Disc 1 Labels: MINT Both are immaculate with no spindle marks or wear to the either centre-hole. The silver centre-hole marker is partially visible around the hole on label 1. Visual: EXCELLENT PLUS Both surfaces are amazingly clean & bright and retain all of their 'as new' deep gloss shines on both sides, with no clouding or dulling to any area when viewed in strong daylight. The only blemishes on this outstanding disc are two small scratches. One measuring 15mm, which can just be felt beneath my fingertips and another of 5mm which is not feelable. Careful examination directly under my halogen desk lamp reveals a few insignificant wispy hairlines & some inevitable faint marks from storage inside the matt-black inner-sleeves, but no further signs of wear. Both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable with no signs or dishing or warping. Audio: Side 1. EXCELLENT PLUS Side 2. EXCELLENT This barely played disc sounds clear, clean & warm throughout and my careful play-check at volume revealed no evidence of groovewear distortion or playwear to any track. A touch of normal, light background is present on the run-ins and on the fades of 'Dear Prudence'. However, everything else on side 1 plays entirely without fault or wear. Side 2 begins again with some light background on the introduction to 'Martha My Dear', but again all tracks on this side play without groovewear. I heard 3 clicks on 'I'm So Tired' and around 7 or 8 on 'Blackbird'. Some light ticks also occur on 'Julia' but there is no further intereference elsewhere. Disc 2 Labels: NEAR MINT Another beautiful set with no more than 3 or 4 spindle trails around the holes on both labels. Visual: NEAR MINT Judging from the lack of wear to the labels, it is clear that this disc has been barely played. Both surfaces are pristine & appear unmarked and 'as new' in strong daylight with no clouding or groove-whitening to any area. Close examination directly under my halogen desk lamp reveals only a few inevitable faint inner-sleeve storage marks but no scratches, scuffs or any other traces of visible wear whatsoever. Again, both sides lie 100% flat on the turntable with no signs or dishing or warping. Audio: NEAR MINT This disc sounds as good as it looks. Having only received less than a handful of careful plays on top quality equipment, the audio reproduction throughout is first-class. All of the 'loud' tracks on side 3 play perfectly with no traces of groovewear distortion and even the delicate 'Mother Nature's Son' plays flawlessly with no ticks, clicks or background noise. Side 4 is its equal with just a hint of background on some of the quieter passages. However, this is not instrusive and does not spoil the listening in any way. Needless to say that there are no other audible faults of any kind anywhere on this incredibly rarity. Cover: EXCELLENT MINUS This heavy card example is generally clean & extremely presentable and has sustained no major faults to any part. The panels do have some natural age-toning to them but are overall clean and retain their high-gloss laminate. The only singificant blemish is two small slightly raised areas in the upper left corner from sticker removal. The laminate is fully intact over the raised 'THE BEATLES' wording and the unique number is clean and undamaged. All corners remain clean & square with just minor shelfwear rubbing, but no heavy bumps or bruises. All of the top-opening edges are clean and undamaged. The inside of the gatefold is totally unworn and displays no significant marks, any writing or missing paper. The spine's laminate has split but it is unbent and all the text is still present and highly readable. Both seams are strong, smooth and unsplit. Inner-sleeves: EXCELLENT Both are clean and flat with just the inevitable faint disc impression but no tears to centre-holes or splits to any seam. Photos: MINT As new. Photo Spacer: MINT As new. Poster: EXCELLENT Clean and crisp with just a hint of toning to the folds and a single pin-hole, but no other wear or damage.
