Killer (and killer rare!) 1966 TV show theme 45 rpm record and picture sleeve..... (20th Century Fox #626). 1966 item from the ABC TV show. Of the many items released to capitalize on the show's success, only a few featured actual images from the show. One of the best that DID is this rare Nelson Riddle 45, with a sensational picture sleeve of Adam West and Burt Ward in full costume. George Barris' Batmobile as pictured here is quite different from the familiar one from the show. This was a very early photo taken during a pre-production prop and costume approval session. The Batmobile is still in its prototype flat black paint with crudely spray painted WHITE highlights on the creases, and is missing some of the familiar touches of the car as it later appeared on the show. Many collectors are not even aware that this picture sleeve exists. Everyone knows that Neil Hefti wrote the famous theme song but few realize that it was the Nelson Riddle orchestra who actually performed the recorded version on the show. This sleeve is so scarce that it's been theorized that it was only issued as a promo and never made it to commercial release. This is an original 1966 pressing and not a reissue or reproduction of any kind. The picture sleeve is Near Mint. It's hard to imagine an example could have survived all these years and still be in THIS great of condition (especially when you consider that this was a KIDS' item, and we know how kids treated thin paper record sleeves back then!) but here it is. Many if not most Sellers would give this a grade of Mint, if they used that grade. It has none of the following defects: no creases, writing, stamps, stains, stickers, tears, water damage, cutout or remainder marks (drillholes)... nothing. No wear at the 'mouth' or opening, no dog-ears; not even SLIGHT creasing at the fragile top edge. No seam splits whatsoever, in fact, there's no seam WEAR at all. In fact it appears that, luckily, the record was taken out of the sleeve early in it's life as there's no ringwear. The only possible flaws one could find (and I'm really being hyper-critical here) are a very slight impression from the record, and a very slight bend (more like waviness.. with absolutely no crease) on one corner, as seen from one side only (the 'back'). The slight off-white color is not from fading/yellowing from age; as has been noted elsewhere, this was printed on off-white paper (it's the same color inside as on the outside) and is as bright as the day it was made. To top it off, it was a great printing job with a fantastic bright, clear image. Considering the nature of this item, I think you can consider it as Mint. Note: my photo makes it appear as if there's a dark or stained area by the top edge; in actuality there isn't. The 45 itself is as above... it also has none of the defects I listed above. The black and gold labels (correct for a pressing from this era) are PERFECT, as new. I will grade the record as Near Mint. It looks unplayed, and has 100% of it's original gloss. It was made from styrene, not vinyl; and as is typical with styrene there are a few surface hairline marks that are simply from storage. Those people familiar with styrene will recognize that this is probably a 'new' record which probably could not bettered, condition-wise. So there you have it ... a must-have for Batman, Batmobile, character or TV collectors. Super rare in any condition. In THIS condition, probably a once-in-a-lifetime chance to own, if not the BEST condition copy in existence, one that couldn't be bettered. I have found two previous transactions for this item on eBay over the last few years; both had sleeves that were in 'off' condition. One (disc VG-/ sleeve VG) went for $338.
