Description
The labels for each disc read: No. 23-A Careless Love White-Bechet 671-A No. 23-B Milk Cow Blues White-Bechet 672 The song titles and artist names are in Alfred Lion’s handwriting. These songs were recorded on March 7, 1940. Personnel: Sidney Bechet (clarinet), Josh White (vocal, guitar), Wilson Ernest Myers (bass). The Blue Note catalog number was #23. 671-A and 672 are the matrix numbers for the songs. Both one-sided discs are in mint condition. In the LP era, only 25 test pressings were made of a title before its release. With 78s, the number may be even smaller. These are most likely the only surviving test pressings of this 78. They were found in a box among cartons from Blue Note’s New York offices.
